Batten Discount Rules replaces the cart discount logic Shopify Scripts used to run. Scripts was switched off on June 30, 2026, and every merchant running it for tiered discounts, buy one get one, gift with purchase, customer tag pricing, or shipping rules lost all of it at once.
A single Shopify Function reads a rule table and applies your rules at checkout, on any Shopify plan. Product, order, and shipping discounts all come out of the same place with a stacking order you set.
Built for people migrating from Scripts
The documentation includes a migration table that maps common Script recipes to rules, so the first hour is spent rebuilding what you had rather than learning a new mental model.
Why one Function matters
App and Function discounts count toward the store's cap on active automatic discounts. Keeping every rule inside one discount node means a rule set costs one slot, and the ordering between rules is decided by you rather than by whichever discount Shopify evaluated first.
An honest rule limit
A discount Function is given a fixed instruction budget per checkout evaluation, and exceeding it means the discount does not apply at all. The rule limits on the plans below are measured against that budget on a ten line cart, not picked to fill a pricing table. Twelve is the ceiling on every plan until the Function itself gets cheaper.
Billing runs through Shopify App Pricing, so plans are created and charged by Shopify against your existing store bill.

- Cart subtotal, item quantity, product, collection or tag membership, variant SKU lists, customer tags, customer email domain, market or country, shipping method, cart attributes, day of week and time window, and first order only.
- Actions in one place
- Percentage or fixed amount off matching lines, quantity tiers, buy X get Y, gift with purchase, order level discounts, shipping discounts, exclusions for items already on sale, and a cap per order.
- Priority and stacking you control
- Rules are ordered and each rule declares whether it stacks with others in its class. Conflicts resolve deterministically and the resolution is documented, not guessed.
- Plain English preview
- Every rule reads back as a sentence while you build it, so what you meant and what will run are the same thing.
- Test panel
- Enter a sample cart and see which rules fire before anything reaches a shopper. The admin and the Function share one rule evaluator.
- One discount node
- Every rule lives inside a single automatic discount, so a large rule set does not eat the store's cap on active automatic discounts.
